Luxury car brand Range Rover hire pop star turned fashion designer Victoria Beckham.

She's known for her luxurious taste, she owns a whole fleet of expensive cars and she's driven this particular type for years. So, it's only logical that when Range Rover set out to appoint a new member of the design team they looked to Victoria Beckham.

The former Spice Girl turned fashion designer was unveiled as the new creative design executive of Range Rover at the luxury car brand's 40th birthday party at Kensington Palace in London last night.

Beckham, who was hired because of her "knowledge of great design and trends", will work closely with the design director of Land Rover (the luxury sport utility vehicle company which owns Range Rover) Gerry McGovern and his team on design projects for special addition Range Rovers, starting with creating the interior of the new Range Rover Evoque 4x4 model.

McGovern said at last night's party: "Victoria understands luxury products. She's a Range Rover fan and has been a Range Rover owner for many years. I believe this appointment adds a new dimension to my design team as we continue to design products to appeal to a wider audience."

"This is a very exciting collaboration," Beckham added. "The classic British heritage of Range Rover and the effortless style, quality and beauty is something I truly admire and also what I hope to achieve with my own brand. I'm honoured to take on this role and be part of the creative team."
